Do Not Include

Tip: Write degree names in full -- 'Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science)' rather than 'B.E CSE'.

Profession & Employment

  • +Job title / designation
  • +Company name and city
  • +Years of experience
  • +Approximate annual income (optional but helps)

  • ~Type of company (private/government/MNC)
  • ~Work city vs. home city (if different)
  • ~Open to relocation (yes/no)

Do Not Include

  • xExact salary figures
  • xPrevious employers (not a resume)
  • xNegative reasons for job changes

Tip: Avoid just 'IT Professional'. Say 'Senior Software Engineer at Wipro, Bengaluru, 7 years experience, CTC approx. Rs. 14 LPA'.

Family Background

Must Include

  • +Father's name and occupation
  • +Mother's name and occupation
  • +Number of siblings and their marital status
  • +Family type (Nuclear / Joint)
  • +Native place / hometown

Optional (Adds Value)

  • ~Family's annual income or financial status (use carefully)
  • ~Relatives in prominent positions
  • ~Whether family is open to inter-caste / inter-state

Do Not Include

  • xDeceased family member details (unless relevant)
  • xFamily disputes or legal matters
  • xNegative comparisons with other families

Tip: Mention siblings briefly -- 'Elder sister, married, settled in the USA' is sufficient and informative.

Horoscope / Astrology

Do Not Include

  • xThis entire section if you are Christian, Muslim, or do not follow astrology -- simply leave it out

Tip: South Indian families need Rasi + Nakshatra + Lagnam. North Indian families need Gotra + Manglik status + Janam Kundali.

Tip: Never put your full residential address in a biodata. City + state is sufficient for initial contact.

Biodata Dos and Don'ts

Do

Keep the biodata to one page (A4). Two pages maximum if you have a photo and horoscope chart.

Avoid

Write a lengthy essay. A biodata is a structured profile, not a personal statement.

Do

Use a professional photo -- well-lit, formal or semi-formal attire, clear face.

Avoid

Use a casual selfie, group photo, or photo with filters.

Do

Use consistent, factual language throughout. Write in third person or first person, but not both.

Avoid

Exaggerate qualifications, income, or family status. Families verify these early.

Do

Have a family member proofread for spelling, grammar, and cultural accuracy.

Avoid

Rely only on spell-check. Cultural field names are often not in standard dictionaries.

Do

Tailor the content slightly for each community you are approaching.

Avoid

Send the exact same biodata to every family without considering their expectations.
